Longford duo loaned to Athlone Town

Longford Town duo Paddy Mulvihill and Gary Murphy have joined Athlone Town on loan until the end of the season.

Longford Town duo Paddy Mulvihill and Gary Murphy have joined Athlone Town on loan until the end of the season.

Mulvihill, a striker, has been out of the picture at Flancare Park since picking up an FAI Cup winner's medal last season. He was allowed to leave the club by manager Alan Matthews earlier this year and has been playing gaelic football with Garrycastle and the Westmeath Under-21s.

Still registered with Longford, the Athlone native is now on his way to St Mel’s Park for the remainder of the First Division campaign.

Joining him there will be promising midfielder Murphy, 20, although his loan deal stipulates he will not be allowed to face Longford in the FAI Cup tie between the clubs on September 11.

Athlone manager Stephen Kelly has also signed winger Shane Brennan from Monaghan United.
