A young woman has died in a house fire in Co Cork.

It happened in Midleton in the early hours of this morning.

At around 3.30am this morning, the alarm was raised after a blaze broke out at a house on the New Cork Road in Midleton.

Emergency services attended the scene. A 22-year-old woman was taken from the building and pronounced dead.

Two men males, aged 65 and 27 respectively, and a 31-year-old female, were brought to the Mercy Hospital in Cork City suffering minor injuries and have since been released.

The scene has been preserved this morning for a technical examination.

An investigation is underway into what might have caused the fire, but Gardaí say that at this stage they are not treating it as suspicious.
