Wind forces delay in search for missing man

The Coastguard has had to abandon the search for a missing 38-year-old man for the time being - as the windy conditions are too dangerous.

Blustery weather has hampered the search for experienced hillwalker - who has been missing on Mweelrea mountain near Louisburgh in Co Mayo for more than 24 hours.

The man left for the mountain on Tuesday evening and was due to camp overnight and return yesterday.

The alarm was raised yesterday when the man failed to return home from a walking expedition.

Mayo Mountain Rescue are co-ordinating the search - along with the Coastguard helicopter.
