Efforts to save beached whales

A rescue operation is underway in west Cork in an effort to save two bottle-nosed whales stranded in shallow water near Whiddy Island.

A rescue operation is underway in west Cork in an effort to save two bottle-nosed whales stranded in shallow water near Whiddy Island.

Local fishermen say they succeeded in getting the whales back to deeper water off North Beach this morning.

However, one of the whales subsequently became stranded again.
