Varadkar: PAC will examine tax evasion dossier

Health Minister Leo Varadkar said today that there can be no tolerance of tax evasion.

His comments come after the Public Accounts Committee was given a dossier of alleged incidents of tax evasion over a number of years - including cases involving some politicians.

The file, submitted by a civil servant, also claims that the issue was not fully investigated.

Minister Leo Varadkar said that he is only aware of what he read on the matter in the media.

"I'm sure that the PAC will look into this further," he said.

"I understand that they've sent it to their legal advisors.

"But let me be very clear about this - tax evasion is not acceptable. When somebody is engaged in something like shoplifting they may steal from one or two people, tax evaders steal from four and a half million, and there can be no tolerance of it."
