Union to meet management in effort to avert ambulance service strike

Siptu has agreed to attend a meeting at the Workplace Relations Commission today in an attempt to resolve a dispute in the National Ambulance Service.

Ambulance drivers voted in favour of strike action last month in a row over pay and conditions.

Siptu representatives met with HSE management and officials from the Department of Health yesterday.

However Paul Bell, a spokesperson for the union, says they were not successful in averting next week's strike action.

Mr Bell said: "The negotiations which we had with the Department of Health and the Health Service Executive failed to reach the objectives which our members have.

"So, unfortunately we had to break off having made some progress on a number of, what we regard, as the peripheral issues and we have agreed to attend the Workplace Relations Commission to try and see is there any way of averting strike action which is due to take place on August 10."
