Two arrested after Garda car is rammed

Two men have been arrested following a burglary at a Co Longford shop.

At around 5.50pm yesterday evening a lone man entered a shop on Main Street, Ballinalee.

He made his getaway with a quantity of cash in a waiting car with two other occupants. A Garda patrol car gave chase but was rammed in the process.

The suspect car was successfully stopped on the N4 near Mullingar with the assistance of local Garda units.

A 30 year-old male was arrested at the scene and following a lengthy search with the help of the Garda Air Support Unit, a second 19 year-old man was also arrested.

One suspect remains at large. The two suspects in custody are expected to appear before Longford District Court in the morning.
