Toddler death inquest calls for report on ambulance to be published

The jury at the inquest of a toddler who died after falling from an upstairs window has urged the HSE to publish immediately the full review of the ambulance service's response to the emergency.

The jury today returned a verdict of accidental death at the inquest into the death of 23-month-old Vakaris Martinaitis from Castleredmond in Midleton, Co. Cork.

It also recommended that all families check the security of upstairs windows in their homes after hearing there was no lock on the bedroom window from which Vakaris fell on May 6 last.

The inquest was told that an ambulance called to the child's home following a 999 call was stood down because the ambulance controller thought the child had suffered a simple fall in the garden.
