A 96-year-old woman is recovering in Waterford city after she was robbed in her own home early this morning.

The woman was asleep in a downstairs bedroom of her house in Belleview Terrace, Johns Hill in the city when two men broke in and woke her up.

They dragged her from her bed, shook her and demanded money.

The woman managed to lock herself in a bathroom for half an hour while the youths ransacked the house.

They made off with a quantity of jewellery which was of sentimental value.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
