Tesco Ireland has confirmed that it is to push ahead with a £100m investment here despite the Government's decision to limit the size of supermarkets.
The chainstore said today's announcement will not impact on its plans for the creation of 500 new jobs across the country over the next 12 months.
It added that it welcomed the clarity provided by the statement from Environment Minister Noel Dempsey.
Tesco has plans to open stores in Castlebar, Killarney, Finglas and Newbridge during 2001.
