The Taoiseach has criticised the Greek government for calling for a bailout extension “at the very last minute”.
Enda Kenny says he’s had calls from other EU leaders who say they wouldn’t be able to get motions through their parliament granting Athens a month long extension - ahead of next week’s referendum on the new bailout terms put forward by the Troika.
"I had calls from some of the European leaders saying that when the bailout programme was officially ended, they would not eb able to get throught their parliaments a motion giving [Greece] a concession of another month.
"All of this could have been raised six months ago," he said. "It came at the very, very last minute- but the opportunity is still there to go back to the table and work it out."
The Taoiseach last night wrote to Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras telling him he didn’t believe Greece could be given more time, after it pulled out of negotiations on Saturday.
Enda Kenny is appealing for Greece to return to talks.
