The Taoiseach will hold a one-to-one meeting with the German chancellor Angela Merkel today.

The two are expected to discuss the prospects of a deal on Ireland's banking debt.

Both the Taoiseach and the German Chancellor will speak during the second day of the European People's Party summit in Dublin today, and will meet afterwards for face-to-face talks.

The party's candidate for the European Commission's presidential elections will be chosen at the event later today.
