Students grant deadline extended until midday today

Students have until midday today to apply for third level grants through SUSI after the deadline was extended.

SUSI was due to stop accepting applications at midnight last night, however a later deadline was set after problems were identified with the online application process.

Students are being reassured that those who submit before today's deadline will be the first ones to be processed.

Last year some students had to wait up to six months before receiving their money following delays in the system.

The Minister for Education, Ruairi Quinn, said that every effort will be made to ensure students are not left waiting:

"We will prioritise all those applications that are in by the close of business will the first that will be processed," he said.

"Will it be perfect this year? I don't think you could ever say it will be perfect, it will be significantly better

"We are keeping an eye on it, the difficulties that occurred in the past was partly because of the way SUSI was operated but also because people had difficulties in getting their information in."
