Mortgage-holders who are in difficulty may receive aid from the Government in a Nama-stye programme.

There are reports this morning that the Green Party has drawn up a scheme to encourage banks to bail out those struggling with mortgage repayments.

Almost 6,400 people stopped paying their mortgages last year, with the equivalent of one home a day being repossessed.

Meanwhile, it is reported that NAMA itself is facing delays in buying its first toxic loans from banks and will not start next month, as planned.
