Strike action by staff at the Mount Carmel Hospital Group in Dublin and Kilkenny, which was due to get underway on Monday, has been averted.

The breakthough comes after management at the hospitals agreed to temporarily suspend planned unilateral pay cuts until a full independent financial review is undertaken.

The independent review, chaired by nominees of ICTU and IBEC, will be followed by a process of engagement with the management of the hospital.

Staff represented by SIPTU and the Medical Laboratory Scientists Association will now return to work on Monday morning as previously planned.
