Sleep-out at Leinster house will urge Government to declare a national homelessness emergency

The Government is being urged to declare a national homelessness emergency.

Activists are holding a sleep-out to mark World Homeless Day outside the Dáil at 8pm this evening.

Organisers have said they were moved to take action following the death of Jonathon Corrie near Leinster House last year.

One of those behind the event is Darren Bradley who has experience of the issue through his family members.

He says it is a chance for homeless people to be heard.

“Later on, at Leinster House, at 8pm, we will be having a sleep-out and there will be hot food and plenty of faces that we can get to know and plenty of homeless so we can get their side of the story.

“The main objective is to call out a national homeless emergency.”
