'She was always innocent…The whole parish was behind her': Locals delighted at outcome for Brady McCarthy

Locals in Lavey in Co Cavan have said they are delighted that murder charges have been dropped against Aisling Brady McCarthy in the US.

The 37-year-old (pictured), who had been working as a nanny in Boston, was arrested two and a half years ago after the death of a one-year-old girl who had been in her care.

The case was originally classed as a homicide. However, the cause of Rehma Sabir's death is now listed as "undetermined".

Local people in Lavey told Northern Sound there was strong support for Aisling and her family in the parish.

"The whole parish was behind her," said one. "They're a lovely family."

"She was always innocent," said another.

A third added: "We're delighted for her and her family. We've all been praying for her these last couple of years. It's just great news - we'll have to have a big celebration."

Ms Brady McCarthy is understood to be keen to return to Ireland as soon as posisble.

Ms McCarthy is originally from Cavan but has been in the US illegally since 2002 and had been Rehma's nanny for around six months when the baby died in January 2013.
