Search for missing angler continues on Lough Ree

Over 100 volunteers including 30 divers are continuing to search a lake in Athlone for a missing angler from Co. Armagh.

The 30-year-old from Portadown is feared drowned after his boat sunk on Thursday.

Two other men, aged 27 and 60, who were also in the boat fishing were taken from the water.

The 27-year-old died in hospital on Friday, while the 60-year-old remains in a critical condition.

The boat and the 30-year-old man are still missing, and the search yesterday was hampered by poor weather conditions.

Lifeboat Operation Manager at Lough Ree, Damien Delaney says visibility is poor for the divers.

"The area that we are searching at the moment is probably over 30 feet (deep)," he said.

"As you can imagine in fresh water it's pretty dark down there so visibility is little over arm's length.

"It takes a lot of divers a lot of time so it's a very slow process."
