The Seanad has agreed to officially invite Pope Francis to Ireland.

The Seanad has agreed to officially invite Pope Francis to Ireland.

Senators have agreed unanimously to call on the Government to arrange an official visit.

They say the trip should also include a meeting with President Higgins.

The call for a papal visit was led by Senator David Norris.
