Revenue seizes more than €350k worth of cigarettes hidden in hot tubs in Rosslare

Revenue officers in Rosslare Europort have seized smuggled cigarettes hidden in a number of hot tubs.

Revenue officers in Rosslare Europort have seized smuggled cigarettes hidden in a number of hot tubs.

The cargo, which arrived from Cherbourg in a Lithuanian registered truck, was identified as suspicious in routine profiling by officers.

They scanned the load and the cigarettes, which were branded 'Minsk Superslip', 'Minsk Short' and 'NZ Gold Superslip', were found. They had a retail value of more than €357,000

The truck was seized and the driver, in his 20s, was questioned and later released.

Investigations are ongoing and Revenue are asking anyone with information regarding the smuggling or sale of illegal cigarettes to contact them in confidence on free phone number 1800 295 295.
