Reilly 'deeply concerned' at recording of ambulance-centre calls

Health Minister James Reilly has said he is "deeply concerned" that non-essential and non-emergency telephone calls were being recorded at one of the HSE's main ambulance control centres in Co Donegal.

The IMPACT trade union has lodged a complaint with the Data Protection Commissioner over the taping of the calls at the Ballyshannon facility.

The union is seeking clarification, as in 2010 the HSE confirmed in writing that non-emergency calls were not being recorded.

Minister James Reilly told Highland Radio that he is taking the issue very seriously.

"I would be deeply concerned that there would be any breach of the Data Act," he said.

"Until I am reassured that..people have not misused the information, I will not be happy. We will have a full report in due course."
