Rabbitte: Govt must focus on taxes and housing if it is to survive

The Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte says the Government needs to turn its focus to housing, mortgages and tax if it is to survive until the next General Election.

Mr Rabbitte was speaking after Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore signalled that Labour wants the coalition to "renew its purpose", or it risks collapsing before 2016.

A number of Ministers have acknowledged that the Government has lost control of the political agenda in the wake of the Garda and water charge controversies.

Mr Rabbitte says it’s time for a new focus saying the issues that preoccupied the Government just after the elections have now changed.
