Education Minister Ruairi Quinn says he does not share the opinion that Joan Burton would be a more popular leader of the Labour Party.

Quinn: Nobody comes to Gilmore in terms of leadership

Education Minister Ruairi Quinn says he does not share the opinion that Joan Burton would be a more popular leader of the Labour Party.

He was speaking after Deputy Burton declined to offer her full endorsement of Eamon Gilmore's leadership of the party.

Minister Quinn says he does not believe there will be any heave against Gilmore in the days ahead.

"She's deputy leader, she was elected by the party membership as deputy leader," he said.

"I'm speaking for myself personally. I think he's a good leader a strong leader - very clear about … and also very well able to make his voice heard where it has to be heard.

"I don't see any challenge, because I don't see anybody who would come close to Eamon Gilmore in terms of his resolution and his leadership."
