A post-mortem will take place today following the death of an elderly woman in a house fire in Donegal.

A post-mortem will take place today following the death of an elderly woman in a house fire in Donegal.

Gardaí are investigating the blaze which started just after 4pm yesterday.

It is believed the woman was in her 90s and lived on her own in the Illies area of Buncrana.

The cause of the fire is not known but the scene has been sealed off pending a full examination later today.

Garda Inspector David Murphy said last night: "At this stage, the scene has been preserved and a full examination of the scene will take place tomorrow morning".
