The incident happened at a service station in Castlebar.

Investigations are continuing after a 26-year-old man was shot a number of times at a service station on the Moneen Road in Castlebar at approximately 3.30pm yesterday afternoon.

He was taken to Mayo General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8pm yesterday evening.

The scene was cordoned off last night while gardaí carried out a technical examination.

A post mortem examination will be carried out at Mayo General Hospital this morning by the Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact Castlebar Garda Station. They are particularly interested in locating a dark-coloured estate car that was seen in the area at the time.
