The Immigrant Council of Ireland has hit out at politicians calling for a crackdown on immigration in response to the economic crisis.

The Immigrant Council of Ireland has hit out at politicians calling for a crackdown on immigration in response to the economic crisis.

The council says it is particularly concerned about calls for a tightening of work-permit rules in light of spiralling unemployment across the country.

It says politicians should be more responsible as such comments could generate unnecessary resentment towards migrant workers who are not to blame for the recession.
