There are reports that a light aircraft may have crashed off the Galway coast.

A search and rescue operation has been launched following reports that a small plane crashed into the sea.

Emergency services received a call shortly after 2pm that a plane crashed while en-route from Kilronan to Inverrin.

There is no official confirmation that a plane is missing or crashed and the Coastguard said they are investigating the reports.
