Pair killed in Offaly plane crash named

Two men have died after a light aircraft crash-landed near Birr, Co. Offaly this evening.

Two men have died after a light aircraft crash-landed near Birr, Co. Offaly this evening.

The pilot has been named locally as Niall Doherty from Roscrea in Co. Tipperary who was in his 30s.

His passenger was Damien Deegan who was in his mid-twenties and from Crinkle in Co. Offaly.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene when the Cessna Light Light Training Aircraft crashed in a field at Clonkelly Upper at about 5pm.
