A proposal to open up Dublin's bus lanes on Bank Holidays has been rejected by the City Council over fears it could cause confusion, and traffic jams.
Councillors in favour said 'bank holidays' should be treated like Sundays on the roads. Those against said major events like the Dublin City Marathon and the St Patrick's Day Parade would be affected.
Cyclists were against bringing extra traffic into the bus lanes, while Taxi groups wanted other motorists kicked out completely, with the bus lanes extended late into the night.
