Ombudsman investigates claim that gardaí sought Sunday World reporter's phone records

The Garda Ombudsman is investigating a complaint that a phone used by a prominent Sunday World journalist has been monitored by the Gardaí.

According to the newspaper, records from a phone used by investigations editor Nicola Tallant have been requested routinely since 2010.

The Sunday World has made a complaint to GSOC, which is investigating the claim.

Nicola Tallant said senior gardaí requested her records from a mobile phone company.

"I was informed (late last year) that my phone records had been sought by senior garda management over a four-year period from 2010," she said.
