The Finance Minister said he cannot speculate what the result of Greece's decision to hold a referendum on any bailout will mean for the Eurozone.
Earlier, Eurozone finance ministers rejected a request by Greece to extend the deadline of its bailout programme until after the planned July 5 referendum.
Greece now which faces a debt deadline on Tuesday, when it has a €1.6 billion repayment to make and its bailout programme expires.
Minister for Finance Michael Noonan, speaking in Brussels earlier, admitted it is an uncertain time.
"I have always said that I have great sympathy for the Greek people. I think the Greek people need a solution, and I thought there was the basis for [one] in the two papers.
"I thought we had arrived at a good place, but that's not to be. I don't know what the next week holds - it's impossible to speculate. We're going into totally uncharted waters."
