Mount Argos residents mull over 'horrendous' implications of four bombs found in car

A local TD has said that if bombs found in a housing estate in Dublin yesterday has gone off, the scene would have been like something from the Troubles.

Gardaí are investigating after the bomb squad had to make safe four bombs found in a car in Mount Argus, Harold's Cross.

The Army Bomb Disposal Team said they were viable improvised explosive devices - very dangerous bombs that were constructed for later use.

Nearby residents were evacuated for a time.

Local representative Eric Byrne said: "I'm absolutely shocked. To imagine that in a housing estate in an area like Mount Argos that four bombs were in a car…

"Could you imagine the devastation had they exploded? It would have been reminiscent of what we saw in Northern Ireland for 30 years. Horrendous."
