A man murdered in a daylight shooting in Dublin city centre has been named locally as David Douglas.

Mr Douglas who was in his 50s was fatally wounded in a shooting outside a shop on Bridgefoot Street just after 4pm yesterday afternoon.

The gunman is believed to have been driven from the scene by another man in a stolen silver/grey Mercedes Benz with the registration 161-D-26702.

Gardaí recovered a gun close to the scene of the crime while the car was found burned-out nearby.

"That vehicle was stolen on the 23rd of June, in the Navan Road area, and we would again appeal to persons that may have seen that car or have information as to where that car was in the past week," said Superintendent Patrick Ceriman, who is leading the investigation.

"Generally, anyone that was in the Bridgefoot Street, Francis Street, Thomas Street, Carman’s Hall area that may have sen anything that attracted their attention to please contact us."
