The 35-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to charges of rape and assault causing harm to the woman on April 12, 2009.

The jury took five hours and 13 minutes to reach a guilty verdict on the assault charge.

The jury of six men and six women failed to reach a verdict on the rape charge. Mr Justice Liam McKechnie sent the jurors home for a second night and asked them to return to continue their deliberations tomorrow morning.
