Three men have been injured in a gun attack in a Dublin park.

Three men have been injured in a gun attack in a Dublin park.

One of the victims is said to be fighting for his life after the shooting at Corduff Park, in Mulhuddart, at around 11.15am.

Gardai said they are investigating the circumstances around the incident.

The injured men – all aged in their 20s – were taken by ambulance to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown and the Mater Hospital, Phibsboro.

One of the men is believed to be in a critical condition and the other two are described as serious.

Investigating officers have appealed for witnesses.

The scene has been sealed off for a technical examination by Garda forensic experts.

"This type of incident is revolting to all law abiding citizens," Justice Minister Alan Shatter said.

"At this early juncture I call on every person who can help the Gardaí in any way with even the smallest scrap of information to make contact with them via the local Garda Station in Blanchardstown or the free confidential telephone number 1800666111."

The three men were believed to have been standing in the park - in the centre of the Corduff housing estate - when two gunmen approached them.

The attackers were dressed in dark clothing and were believed to have been armed with a handgun.

They opened fire, shooting one of the men in the back of the head.

The second man was hit in the face, neck and leg while the third man sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and leg.

Two of the victims managed to make it out of the park and into a nearby house where the ambulance was called out.

A Garda source said the injured men were well known to the force.

The gunmen are believed to have fled the scene in the direction of Edgewood Lawn.

There have been no arrests yet.

Investigating officers are carrying out searches and door-to-door inquiries in the housing estate.
