Man charged with attempted robbery in Dublin

Gardaí have charged a 21-year-old man after an attempted robbery at a shop in Terenure yesterday.

At around 6.20pm an armed man wearing a hat and scarf entered the shop, there he is alleged to have threatened staff and demanded cash. The man is also alleged to have been in possession of two knives.

After the robbery the man left the shop on Terenure Road West - without taking anything - and ran in the direction of Lavarna Grove.

Two Gardaí, who were out on mobile patrol, saw him running from the shop and followed him on foot.

Both Gardaí confronted him on Lavarna Grove, where he was disarmed and arrested.

Gardaí observed a waiting car and arrested a female passenger. Both were taken to Terenure Garda Station.

The 23-year-old woman has been released and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

The man will appear before court today in relation to the incident.
