A man has appeared before Dublin District Court, charged in connection with a massive drug seizure last week.

Thirty-three-year-old Chang Hui Wang - a Chinese national with an address in Foxboro, Lucan Co Dublin - was arrested last Wednesday in Mullingar following the discovery of €1.4m worth of cannabis at a grow house in Longford.

The seizure was part of a haul worth €4.6m at various locations across the country.

Hui Wang was today refused bail and legal aid. Gardaí have described him as a "significant figure" in relation to cannabis grow houses.

He is the eighth person to be charged in connection with the Garda investigation Operation Nitrogen.

Hui Wang was today remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on January 27.
