Majority of Irish people feel hospitals are dangerous places

More than half of people in Ireland feel that hospitals are dangerous places, according to a new EU survey on patient safety.

According to the Eurobarometer survey, 54% of those questioned felt it was likely they could be harmed by the care they receive in them.

A quarter reported they or a family member had an "adverse event" like something going wrong with their care while in hospital, slightly below the European average of 27%.

Despite the concerns however, 62% still feel Ireland has 'good' quality healthcare - a jump of 9% on similar research from 2009.
