Lowry hits out at Moriarty and media

Independent TD Michael Lowry has today lashed out at media and political commentary made in the wake of the Moriarty Tribunal report.

In a statement issued this afternoon, Deputy Lowry said he had not been declared corrupt by the Tribunal, but claimed that he had been "roundly condemned as a convicted criminal by the media and political opportunists".

He also said he does not accept the opinions of Mr Moriarty, which he said amount to "a death sentence" on his reputation.

Mr Lowry accused Mr Moriarty of creating "a false impression" in his report that he had been the net beneficiary of about €900,000, arising from two property transactions and a loan agreement, but he said this was not a "truthful or accurate presentation of the facts".

He also said that "recent comments made by various individuals which have sought to criticise the Gardaí for apparently not properly pursuing their inquiries are wholly disingenuous and completely improper."

He warned that these people should stop attempting to interfere with the independence of the DPP and the Gardaí and called on them to stop "seriously prejudicing" his right to due process.
