The Lord Mayor of Dublin Oisin Quinn has lost his seat.

Nonetheless, Oisin Quinn said he fully supported Labour party leader Eamon Gilmore, but added that national policies had hit Labour's local candidates hard.

"It's been a bad day for us," he agreed." When you're out there campaigning, you always hope things will turn out better than is predicted but the writing was on the wall in terms of the opinion polls.

"It was tough. We're in the middle of (a series of) tough budgets and the public were clearly not happy with what was being done," he said.
