The company is one of the leading employers in the Irish digital IT sector, with 600 staff and has acquired a 200,000 square foot site at Wilton Place, where its existing office is located.

The site will boost LinkedIn's capacity to 1,200 workers. Work on the construction of the premises at Wilton Place will begin next May.

Ireland is the company's global headquarters for all territories outside the US and Canada. Globally, the company employs 5,700 people.

Chief executive of the IDA Martin Shanahan said LinkedIn had seen huge growth in the past four years, with more to come.

"LinkedIn has grown from a three-person operation when they first arrived and established their headquarters in Dublin in 2010 to an operation which employed over 600 highly qualified staff today.
