Councillor Cian Prendiville from the Anti-Austerity Alliance said it will be Limerick's biggest bonfire.

"We're hoping for hundreds of people to come down and that's what we mean by the biggest bonfire," he said.

"We're going to have carnival games there, we're going to have where they can bin the austerity parties, throwing their logos into the bins, there's ice-cream, there'll be a family fun day as well as a political protest by burning the bills and sending a strong message to Irish Water that we won't be bullied and we won't pay."
