Limerick City film studio gets the go-ahead

The chief executive of Limerick City and County Council says up to 750 jobs could be created at a new film and television studio in the city.

The development is subject to planning permission and will be based at the former Dell Factory in Limerick.

The council agreed to buy the building in May for €5.5m.

It is hoped that Troy Studios will be able to cater for major productions at the premises by the middle of 2016.

Limerick City and County Council chief, Conn Murray, says that could have a major impact on jobs in the city.

Mr Murray said: "We believe that we can create anything up to 750 jobs.

"That's part of the process, the production, the servicing that goes with this type of industry itself.

"The evidence is clear in terms of what's happening in Bray in Ardmore and Ashford and obviously what's happening in Belfast itself.

"There is real evidence to suggest that this is a very sound and sustainable investment."
