The Taoiseach Enda Kenny is indicating there will not be any U-turn on the issue of respite care grants.
Labour backbenchers are hoping to be able to reverse the €325 cut announced yesterday when putting through the Social Welfare Bill.
Sinn Féin says the cut breaches decency, but the Communications Minister has described it as "modest".
Speaking in Government Buildings this evening, Kenny says the Budget as announced will stand.
“None of the choices were easy, all of them were unpalatable. When you recall the Budgets of the 90s, which could have been done within 15 minutes, the question was not how much you could take in but give out.
“That is what landed us in the unprecedented economic situation we find ourselves in. The Budget was went through yesterday and it is the intention of the Government to carry it through.
