The ECB's governing board is holding a conference call around now to discuss whether to maintain its emergency cash lifeline for Greek banks.
It has been reported that the banks have just two days of cash left before they run out of currency.
The IMF meanwhile has said that it is prepared to step in and offer help to the Greek government if its assistance is needed.
Greek prime minister Alexis Tsipras is to make a fresh bid for international aid at a summit of Eurozone leaders in Brussels tomorrow afternoon.
He is expected to call for a debt write-down, but here at home, Taoiseach Enda Kenny says even delaying Greece's debt repayments may be out of the question.
"That programme has now ended, and those discussions were not completed, so if the Greek Government now wish to have further assistance and facilities made avbailable from Europe, then they have got to ask for a third programme, and that will not happen overnight," said the Taoiseach.
