Kenny calls Trump's comments about immigrants 'outrageous'

The Taoiseach has lashed out at Donald Trump, calling his comments about immigrants "truly outrageous".

The US presidential candidate has been criticised for claiming America has become "a dumping ground" for Mexicans who aren't wanted by their own country.

Trump has also accused the Mexican government of exporting rapists and drug dealers to the United States.

Trump's rivals have condemned the remarks as racist, and in the Dáil this evening the Taoiseach added his own criticism.

"I regard the comments made by candidate Trump as being absolutely outrageous, and I condemn them unreservedly in the context of immigrant people.

"We have 70 million people ourselves worldwide who claim Irish ancestry, many of those were deported, many of those left because of economic circumstances."
