The country's 146 judges claimed €1.6m in expenses in 2012, according to figures released by the courts service.

The country's 146 judges claimed €1.6m in expenses in 2012, according to figures released by the courts service.

The figures show the majority of the money is paid in travel and subsistence for Circuit and District court judges.

Almost €60,000 was paid out for judicial attire and other incidental expenses.

The top combined claim was made by District Court Judge Gerard Furlong for more than €45,000.
