Judge to decide if water protesters have breached court orders
A group of water protesters may be jailed or fined today if the High Court finds they have obstructed water meter installation works in North Dublin.
Seven demonstrators are accused of being in contempt of court orders by GMC Sierra, the company responsible for carrying out the works.
GMC Sierra claims their workers were obstructed while installing water meters in Dublin 7 on dates in last December - as part of an ongoing protest campaign.
The company hired private security firm GuardEx which filmed surveillance videos presented in evidence to the court last Monday.
It is alleged the recordings show protesters aggressively removing barriers, blocking vehicles, forcefully entering a work station and attempting to interfere with a water meter in and around Stoneybatter and Phibsboro.
Mr Justice Paul Gilligan has to decide if there is enough evidence to show that the protesters have breached court orders which provide for a 20 metre exclusion zone around the works.
If he finds in favour of GMC Sierra he could jail or fine the protesters.
