Jill Meagher murderer loses bid to cut sentence

The man who raped and murdered Irishwoman Jill Meagher in Australia has lost his bid to have his sentence reduced.

Adrian Ernest Bayley was sentenced to 35 years without parole in June.

Lawyers for the 42-year-old argued the sentence was excessive and asked for it to be reduced by seven years.

The judge took 10 minutes to make his decision - refusing his application and ruling that Bayley would serve his full life sentence.
