Irish workers needed for Christchurch rebuild, says recruitment firm

A New Zealand-based recruitment company says Irish workers will be needed to help with the re-build of Christchurch.

A New Zealand-based recruitment company says Irish workers will be needed to help with the re-build of Christchurch.

The city was destroyed in an earthquake in February and thousands of buildings were damaged.

As the rebuild gets underway, thousands of construction workers are needed.

While jobs will be offered to locals first, it is thought positions will be offered to overseas workers and in particular Irish workers in the future.

"Irish and Kiwis get on very well," said Matt Jones, managing director of CanStaff in New Zealand.

"The skillsets are very similar, the standard of workmanship is very similar, and that's what our clients are saying - let's get the Irish."
